Poker Tournaments

A poker tournament is a type of tournament in which the winners are declared in the game of poker. The person can have a lot of fun by playing a game in this tournament and provides the best deals in the game. There are number of tournaments held for most popular poker games like Stud Poker, Omaha Poker and Texas Holdem and also includes Pot Limit, Limit and No Limit poker tournaments. If the player wants to play the poker game in the tournament, then the player has to sign up the poker newsletter which will inform about the poker tournaments held in the future.

One can also check the poker blog for information of tournament and other news of poker. There are two best places where the poker tournaments are regularly held and they are Atlantic City and Las Vegas . Poker tournaments are also held in online poker rooms.

Major Tournaments

The two most famous poker tournaments are the World Series of Poker and the WorldPoker Tour championship which were held in Las Vegas at Nevada . The tournaments in future will be held at Harrah’s Entertainment properties. There are various other main tournaments which are held throughout the year. The World Poker Tour was broadcasted throughout Caribbean and US. Many of the tournaments were held in various casinos such as Reno Hilton’s World Poker Challenge, Commerce Casino’s LA Poker Classic and Bicycle Casino’s Legends of Poker.

Betting Format in Tournaments

The betting in tournaments can take place in the following ways:-

  • In a Structured betting system, there is a restriction kept on the raises and bets to a particular amount and these amounts keep on increasing throughout the tournament. For example, in a seven-card stud tournament, the raises will be $10 in the first betting round and it will increase to $20 in the later rounds.

  • In Semi-structured betting, the range is provided for raises. In this type of betting format, the player cannot raise less than the earlier player. For example, pot limit is a type of semi-structured format in which there cannot be any increment on the raises and it cannot beat the current size of the pot.

  • Unstructured betting is known as no limit. In this type of betting, players can bet for any amount in early betting rounds.

In the poker tournaments, a fixed entry fee is paid by players and in turn they receive a certain amount of currency known as play money which is represented in the form of poker chips. Some of the tournaments provide the option to the players of buy-back and re-buy. So, tournaments are open to all but require some nominal fees or sometimes the players are invited to play in the tournaments.
