Poker Rules

Poker is a kind of card game which is very popular among the players. Poker is also known as video poker which is played by a single player and can be seen in various casinos in a slot machine using poker hand rankings. Poker is a game of possibility. The game poker is played in a huge number of deviations but every player should follow the basic rules while playing. This game is divided into two – the poker basicrules and the poker variations.

Poker Basic Rules

The standard pack which is used in the game for playing cards is 52 cards. The ranking of the card is as follows – Ace, Jack, 10, 9, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and Ace. Suits are of four types such as hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. The player who will have higher number of cards will win the game. In this game, jokers are used as wild cards and other cards which are treated wild are one-eyed jacks and deuces.

How the Hands are ranked

The ranking of the hands depends on the following:-

Five of a Kind

All poker hands involve about five hands. The player will win only when he is having the highest card. For example – If the player is having five Aces, then they can beat five kings and five queens.

Straight Flush

This is considered as the greatest normal hand. The player should have 5 cards in order like 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 which should be of the equal suit. One can also have an Ace which can be either higher or low. If the person is having cards like K, A, 4, 3, 2, then this is not considered as a straight flush. When the player contains an Ace straight flush, then it is known as a Royal Flush.

Four of a Kind

This means that one should have four cards of the equal position. If the person is having more than two hands of the same rank, then that person will definitely win. In case of wild cards, two players can have four of a kind consisting of the same rank.

Full House

This is made when the player is having three cards of same rank and a pair like Q, Q, Q, 4, 4. The player can break the ties first by the three cards of equal rank and then by using a pair.

Flush

This is made when the player is having all the cards of the equal suit like J, 8, 4, 3 and 2.

Variations of Poker

7-card Stud

This game can be played by 3-5 players. The betting round begins when the player shows the highest cards and another betting round starts when the player shows four cards. Then final betting round is held.

5-card Stud

This is played exactly like a 7-card stud and the difference is that it is played only with 5 cards. The betting rounds are held by putting down the new cards.

Lowball

This is played by 3-7 players. Initially, only five cards are placed to the player and are played like a five card draw. This is the best game for those players who want to break the uniformity of the standard poker game.

Chicago

This game is played exactly like a 7-card stud and high spade is used in the hole to divide the spot. Pair of five cards and wild cards are used as variations in this game.
