How to Play Poker

Generally, poker is played in a large number of variations but some players follow basic pattern for playing this game. The person who wants to deal each hand revolves in front of the players and is noticed by a token known as buck or dealer button. In case of casino, the cards for each hand are handled by a house dealer and the button is rotated among the players clockwise to specify a nominal dealer which determines the sequence of betting.

Sometimes one or more players are required to make post antes or forced bets for each hand in order to generate an original bet and there is a competition in the players while playing poker game.

The cards are rearranged by the dealer and then appropriate numbers of cards are given to the players at a time. The distributed cards are placed either facing up or facing down which depends on the variation of the poker which is played. After the first deal, the betting round starts. In between the rounds, the additional cards are distributed or replaced. After completing each round, all the bets which are collected before starting the game are assembled into the central pot.

A player can make a bet or the opponent can call, fold or raise during the betting round at any time. When one of the player makes a bet and no opponents is there to match the bet then that hand completes and the player making the bet is awarded the pot without showing the cards and the next hand starts. At the end of the last betting round, if there is more than one player then there is a shutdown in which the remaining players show their hidden cards and estimate their hands.

The player who has the best hand will be awarded with the pot. The most popular poker variants in the game are Stud poker, Draw poker and Community card poker.
